“The Love Hypothesis” is now streaming on Prime Video and, like any good rom-com, it’s chock-full of needle drops, and you’ll definitely recognize some of those voices. In fact, you’ll recognize the first one right away, and it just so happens to be a very intentional easter egg. The film kicks off with Gracie Abrams’ song “Mess It Up.” For those unaware, Gracie Abrams is the daughter of J.J. Abrams, who produced the “Star Wars” sequel series and directed both “The Force Awakens” and “The Rise of Skywalker.” What’s the connection? “The Love Hypothesis” actually originated as “Star Wars” fanfiction, about Kylo Ren and Rey. Ironically, “The Love Hypothesis” stars Tom Bateman as Adam Carlsen, the character based on Kylo Ren — and Bateman just so happens to be married to Daisy Ridley in real life. Ridley, of course, literally played Rey onscreen in Abrams’ movies. It all comes full circle, doesn’t it? That said, there are certainly more artists than just Abrams on the soundtrack, so let’s shout them out too. Here are all the songs in “The Love Hypothesis”: “Mess It Up” by Gracie Abrams “It’s Real” by Real Estate “Sidelines” by Cole Simon “The Gattaca Blues” by…
What are the entertainment offerings that consumers are most excited about? It’s a question that marketers, distributors, advertisers and media publications are always asking. ScreenShare, a data partnership between Screen Engine and TheWrap, tracks the Top 10 most-mentioned entertainment options every week and whether each has gained or lost momentum compared to the prior week. The chart lives on the Data & Analysis page of the WrapPRO Members Hub. For the week of Sept. 12-18, “NFL Football” held the top spot in entertainment mentions at 4.6% as Week 1 of the regular season wrapped up and Week 2 got underway on Sept. 17. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” held second at 4.4% as the film become the highest-grossing release of all time at the domestic box office, reaching the record in just 47 days. “Grand Theft Auto VI” held third at 4.1% ahead of the game’s Nov. 19 launch, while “Avengers: Doomsday” held fourth at 3.2% on the heels of Disney’s announcement that presales had already topped $50 million three months ahead of its Dec. 18 release. “Resident Evil” surged to round out the Top 5 at 3.2%, as anticipation built ahead of the September 18 release of Zach Cregger’s reboot, which went…

A federal judge on Wednesday questioned the Trump administration’s decision to revoke CNN, MS NOW and Politico’s White House access, saying the government appeared not to have followed the required process before barring the outlets. U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly zeroed in on due process during a hearing on the outlets’ request to immediately restore their access, saying the process required under previous court decisions “wasn’t played out here.” Kelly did not rule from the bench Wednesday. “Before we get to any core First Amendment issues, there is a due process claim and a due process issue that seems to me the first stop in figuring out how to resolve the motion,” Kelly said. The focus on due process could prove central to the outlets’ bid to regain access. Previous federal court rulings require the White House to give journalists notice and an opportunity to respond before revoking their press credentials — steps the outlets argue they were denied. Kelly pointed to two previous rulings from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit establishing due process protections for journalists whose White House credentials are revoked. “The government said those cases … were wrongly decided,” Kelly said. “Maybe they…

Rachel Maddow wondered if Donald Trump choosing to ban MS NOW, CNN and Politico together rather than just one had a “blunted” effect. While talking on the “Lovett or Leave It” podcast Wednesday, the MS NOW host posited if Trump had just singled out one news organization to ban from The White House, if that would have had the “positive impact” he wanted. From other reports, Maddow thought just banning MS NOW might have actually been the best move. “I think there’s a few different things going on. First of all, The Wall Street Journal reported that the catalyst for Trump doing this was that his aide, Natalie Harp, reportedly showed him footage, I guess, of people saying things about him on MS NOW that he didn’t like,” Maddow told host Jon Lovett. “And so then he responded with a ban on MS NOW and CNN and Politico. Now where does that come from?” She continued: “I have always had this theory that Trump doesn’t come after MS NOW more than he does other news organizations, even though I think of all the mainstream media organizations we are probably the most critical of him, I’ve always thought that he maybe…
