Bill Maher acknowledged Dolly Parton’s passing on “Real Time” Friday night but suggested more important news may have been overshadowed by the country singer’s death. The comedian opened his Friday night monologue by commenting on Parton’s death at the age of 80, telling his studio audience, “Thank you for being in a good mood. We did have a tough week, Dolly Parton died, there was horrible flooding in Nepal and I found out today that Canada has been treating me very badly.” As Maher continued on, he addressed Donald Trump’s trade war with Canada, urging the “Real Time” viewers up north that they were “still cool” despite the president’s tariffs. Maher then spent the next several minutes mocking Trump’s decision to rename Lake Ontario to Lake America, as well as the ongoing war in Iran. Elsewhere in the monologue, Maher highlighted the many important anniversaries worth noting, including the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Here’s where Maher made a subtle dig at the global mourning for Parton. “All this is going on and all America could really talk about this week was how sad it is that we lost Dolly Parton,” he told his audience. “Everybody around the country,…

Maisie Williams knows a thing or two about witchcraft beyond her work in “Practical Magic 2,” admitting she once hired a digital mystic. Specifically, at Wednesday’s European Premiere for “Practical Magic 2,” the “Game of Thrones” alum shared that she once hired an “Etsy witch” to assist in her career. “I paid an Etsy witch to give me a role. To help me manifest a role in a movie,” she said to British Vogue during a red carpet interview. “And she told me some things that I had to say every night.” Per Williams, she followed the online spellcaster’s instruction, as she said the words “every night.” However, the spell didn’t work, with Williams quipping, “It didn’t happen!” While Williams may not be sold on the Etsy witch industry, the actress confessed that she does partake in superstitions. “I don’t like to walk over the three consecutive drains,” she said, referring to the British superstition that it’s bad luck. “I don’t swear by it. I’ve done it. Listen, I’ve partaken. But it makes me feel uncomfortable every time, even if I sometimes end up walking into ongoing traffic. I just have to. I stick with that one.” She added: “It…

After parting ways with WNBC, longtime investigative journalist Sarah Wallace wants to clear the air: She’s not retiring. Instead, the seasoned journalist revealed in a direct-to-camera social media video on Friday that her position was entirely eliminated from the company, citing the changing media landscape as the cause for her career change. “As we know, the media landscape around the country has changed, and WNBC made the difficult financial decision not to renew my contract and to actually eliminate my position as an investigative reporter,” Wallace said. “I had 11 great years there, and they have been fabulous to me. I’m also grateful to all of you who have reached out with your support: your calls, your messages, your emails.” In the video, Wallace looked at the bright side of the situation, saying that she will now be able to dive even deeper into investigation outside of WNBC. However, she, like many journalists who have been laid off, now faces the struggle of finding the best channel through which to continue her work. “Now, I am able to focus full-time on my passion of investigative reporting: crime, corruption, wherever it leads, and I am just now looking for the right…

Amid an international outpouring of love for the “9 to 5” singer in the wake of her death, Allie Colleen Brooks compared fans’ love for Dolly to how they feel about her country superstar dad, sharing why she’s worried about how Garth will be mourned when he dies one day. “My greatest fear in life is the day my Dad loses his life and I have to see the world mourn a man they never knew the way I knew him,” Allie wrote on Instagram Aug. 25. “To the personal family and friends of Mrs. Dolly you have all my love and condolences today and forever going forward.” The 30-year-old added to the Parton family, “What a huge, beautiful, special life to have loved and to grieve. She’s an eagle when she flies. The world has had no shortage of opportunities to celebrate the late singer and philanthropist Dolly Parton since the icon’s death was announced Tuesday. Now, Parton’s home state of Tennessee plans to honor the celebrity with the unique distinction of having an airport named after her. The proposal will be discussed at a Metro Nashville Airport Authority meeting on Sept. 17. “Dolly Parton’s extraordinary life is forever woven into the fabric of our state. From her rural mountain home in East Tennessee to global stages, Dolly carried the Volunteer Spirit with her,” Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee said in a Friday statement. “At a place where Tennessee welcomes the world, it is fitting that Nashville International Airport would bear the name of our state’s favorite daughter and greet travelers with the enduring legacy of Dolly’s music, generosity, faith, and kindness.” A petition to rename the airport after Dolly Parton was started on Change.org in January 2025 and quickly gained momentum in the wake of this week’s events. At the time of writing, the petition has garnered 160,000 signatures, potentially drawing the attention of government officials. Prior to the airport renaming proposal, Sheryl Crow and Katie…
Description Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman give ET an exclusive look at the set of ‘Practical Magic 2,’ revealing their go-to move for getting into character: a bounce, a stretch and even a little twerk, all caught on camera before takes. That same on-set chemistry was evident back in 1998, when ET went behind the scenes of the OG film, capturing the pair’s pre-filming ritual of knocking heads together while saying, ‘Strong like bull.’ Nearly three decades later, the two stars reprise their sisterly roles, with Nicole reflecting, ‘I’ve waited such a long time for this.’ ‘Practical Magic 2’ hits theaters on Sept. 11. California lawmakers have unveiled a new trailer bill that will make changes to the state’s expanded production tax incentive program after a law capping annual tax credits for all businesses passed earlier this summer. On June 29, Senate Bill 122 was passed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom as part of the state’s annual budget, capping the amount of tax credits any business can receive at $5 million or 70% of total liability per year, whichever is greater. The bill was passed as a way to raise revenue from corporate taxes by closing loopholes. But SB 122 sparked alarm among studios and entertainment unions, as the law threatened to undermine the industry’s efforts to make California more competitive as a film and TV production hub by expanding the state’s production incentive cap from $330 million to $750 million last year. With the $5 million annual cap in place, industry advocates like the Entertainment Union Coalition and the Motion Picture Association warned that it would take longer for major studio productions to receive the tax credits they earned while making it more difficult for independent productions to sell the credits to potential financiers. A new trailer bill, Assembly Bill 186, seeks…

When John Boorman’s gonzo “Exorcist II: The Heretic” opened in 1977 as the sequel to William Friedkin’s original 1973 masterpiece, it was promptly pilloried by critics. (Gene Siskel, in his zero-star review, recounted how a man at his screening had playfully threatened Siskel’s life “if you say one nice thing about that lousy movie.” The man’s wife made sure the critic knew her husband was kidding.) Similarly, the movie’s box office disappointed. “Exorcist II” made $30.7 million, compared to the original’s $441.3 million, cementing the perception that the movie wasn’t just bad but was one of the worst movies ever. Over the years that idea was repeated – that it wasn’t just a lackluster sequel but by filmmaker Friedkin’s own measure “a freaking disgrace.” Time has been kind to Boorman and to “Exorcist II,” and a reappraisal has slowly occurred in the decades since its release. Its outrageousness is now celebrated and its striking dissimilarity to the original is a feature, not a bug. Special edition home video releases have been produced and Boorman, one of our most underrated auteurs, is finally being acknowledged for his influence and artistic achievements. But the biggest contribution to the continued rehabilitation of “Exorcist II” arrives this…

Kylie Jenner is keeping her title of "Youngest Self-Made Billionaire." Seven years after Forbes sparked controversy for dubbing her as such due to the success of Kylie Cosmetics, the ‘Kardashians’ star argued why she feels she deserves the recognition. "None of the money I’ve ever made is inherited, so it’s technically true," Kylie contended in a Who What Wear interview published Aug. 27, "but people just feel like the privilege I’ve had was a major stepping stone." It’s a defense the 29-year-old has put up before. “There’s really no other word to use other than self-made because that is the truth," Kylie told Interview Germany in 2019. "That is the category that I fall under." In fact, the makeup mogul noted that she "did not get money from" her parents Kris Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner "past the age of 15," two years before launching her beauty label. "I am a special case because before I started Kylie Cosmetics, I had a huge platform and lots of fans," she continued. "I used 100 percent of my own money to start the company." Kylie added, "Not a dime in my bank account is inherited, and I am very proud of that." Full…
