Macon Blair’s “Idiots,” an outrageous, R-rated comedy that is now available on digital, really does feel like a movie from a different era. It stars Dave Franco and O’Shea Jackson Jr. as severe screw-ups who are hired to chaperone a teenage delinquent (Mason Thames from “How to Train Your Dragon”) to a rehab facility. Of course, he gives them much more trouble than they were expecting, and along the way, all hell breaks loose. Kiernan Shipka shows up as a hooker with a heart of gold, while Peter Dinklage and Nicholas Braun play hillbilly hoods looking to break the kid out of custody. Rarely these days do you see a comedy so gloriously unhinged. So it’s not surprising that Blair wrote the movie more than 10 years ago. Blair came up with the idea for “Idiots” (which premiered at Sundance earlier this year under the more raunchy title “The Shitheads”) while he was working on Jeremy Saulnier’s movie “Blue Ruin.” Blair starred, and Alex Orr was on the crew. Orr asked to see some of Blair’s spec scripts, and together they started talking about what they could do. Orr knew some guys who did this type of job and “was…

An Iowa judge dismissed President Donald Trump’s lawsuit Wednesday against the Des Moines Register and pollster J. Ann Selzer over a 2024 Iowa poll that inaccurately showed then-Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris leading Trump in the state. Selzer’s poll, released days before the 2024 election, predicted Kamala Harris would win the key swing state of Iowa; Trump went on to win the state by 13 percentage points. The president sued Selzer the Des Moines Register and Gannett in December, a month after he beat Harris in the election. Selzer, a veteran pollster who has her work consistently cited by media outlets, had a “significant and impactful opportunity to deceive voters” with her incorrect poll, Trump’s initial lawsuit claimed. The lawsuit also said the poll “was not reality, it was election-interfering fiction.” Polk County District Judge Scott Beattie granted motions to dismiss filed by Selzer and Selzer & Company, as well as the Des Moines Register and its parent company, Gannett Co., in a ruling issued Wednesday. Trump’s team alleged violations of the Iowa Consumer Fraud Act, fraudulent misrepresentation and negligent misrepresentation. The plaintiffs also sought to prevent the defendants from publishing additional allegedly deceptive polls. In his ruling, Beattie said the plaintiffs’…

The ‘Home Improvement’ alum—real name Jonathan Taylor Weiss—was detained by police after an altercation at a traffic stop in Los Angeles’ West Lake Village on Sept. 21, the Los Angeles Sheriffs’ Department told E! The late Dolly Parton’s younger sister Freida Parton has broken her silence on family “feud” rumors following the legendary singer’s death. “Hi I’ll say this and this only: there is no feud within our family. No one among the Parton/Owens family is fighting over Dolly’s estate,” Freida, 69, clarified via Instagram on Wednesday, September 23. Her statement comes on the heels of Dolly’s nephew Bryan Seaver being fired as head of security for her properties last week. The controversial decision to remove Seaver was reportedly made by the executors of Dolly’s estate. “We all love Bryan, just as we love each other. I love you all,” Freida clarified in Wednesday’s Instagram post. View this post on Instagram A spokesperson for Seaver’s security company SAPS said over the weekend that they were “dismayed by the unexpected and, so far, unexplained actions” by those in charge of Dolly’s estate. Seaver and his team were reportedly served notice on Wednesday, September 16, that their services were no longer required at Dolly’s Nashville home, museum and warehouse. They were immediately replaced by an entirely new security staff. “We remain unshakably resolved to fulfill her final directive to protect her family, and we refuse to…

“Dynamic Duo” has found its Robin(s). TheWrap has confirmed that Mason Thames has been tapped to voice Dick Grayson, a.k.a. Robin, in the upcoming animated DC Comics feature. Thames went on Instagram to share comics featuring Grayson as his later persona, Nightwing, soon after the news broke. Joining Thames in the cast is Logan Kim, who will voice Jason Todd. In the comics, Todd was the second Robin before eventually becoming the anti-hero Red Hood. “Dynamic Duo” will divert from the comics canon and feature Grayson and Todd as orphans and childhood friends who are pulled apart by destiny. Grayson (as happens in the comics) is taken in by Bruce Wayne and becomes the Robin to his Batman, while Todd falls in with the criminal Red Hood Gang. Two more names have been confirmed for the cast as members of that Red Hood Gang: Lee Pace, who will voice Red Hood One, and Steve Buscemi, who will portray Red Hood Two. Some interpretations of the Batman mythos have featured Joker as either a leader or a fall guy in the Red Hood Gang. Warner Bros. also announced a new release date for the film directed by Arthur Mintz, with “Dynamic…

Dolly Parton’s nephew Bryan Seaver is clearing the air amid drama with her estate. After Parton’s manager Danny Nozell alleged in a retraining order request Seaver had threatened him following his firing as head of security for the country singer’s estate, the late singer’s relative spoke out to defend his name. "The restraining order is spurious and simply a publicity stunt," Seaver told ABC News in a Sept. 23 statement, denying Nozell’s allegations that he threatened him and his associates. "I was fired… After the estate negotiated with me and my company for services in perpetuity and agreed to that service provision from my company," he continued. "A week later they fired me for these contrived ‘threats.’" In his request for a temporary restraining order, Nozell cited a Sept. 3 email from Seaver in which he referred to himself as "a killer." In response, the son of the 9 to 5 star’s sister Cassie Parton and Larry Seaver clarified that his "killer" remark was a reference to a nickname Parton had given him. Movie theaters will not be lacking in quality films to offer customers this weekend. Along with the second weekend of Sony’s glowingly received horror film “Resident Evil,” new releases hitting theaters include A24’s “To Catch a Predator” drama “Primetime” starring Robert Pattinson, Universal/DreamWorks’ original animated movie “Forgotten Island,” and Paramount’s Brad Pitt survival thriller “Heart of the Beast,” all of which have received rave reviews from critics. But there’s a good chance they could all be topped on the box office charts by a re-release of “Avengers: Endgame.” Titled “Avengers: Endgame Encore,” Disney/Marvel Studios’ visually remastered reissue of its 2019 record-smashing blockbuster is projected to make at least $25 million at the domestic box office this weekend, with independent trackers and exhibition sources giving it a good chance at clearing $30 million. If it passes that higher figure, it will set a new record before inflation adjustment for the biggest weekend ever for a re-release, passing the $30.2 million of Disney’s 2011 3D re-release of “The Lion King.” Even if it is on the lower end of those projections, “Endgame Encore” could still take the No. 1 spot as “Resident Evil,” despite strong audience and critic reception, is currently projected…

Lili Reinhart is ready for her date with the perfect pink dress, oh yeah.  The Love Hypothesis star stepped out in a custom Miu Miu look for the movie’s Los Angeles premiere on Sept. 22. And while…

Fans of Ali Hazelwood’s book The Love Hypothesis might be surprised by the amount of changes — and omissions — in the new Lili Reinhart movie. Prime Video’s new rom-com follows Ph.D. candidate Olive (Reinhart) and professor Adam a.k.a (Tom Bateman) as they pretend to be in a relationship before real feelings begin to get in the way. Hazelwood’s novel was originally a fan fiction story about Rey and Kylo Ren from the Star Wars franchise. (Bateman’s wife, Daisy Ridley, happened to play Rey opposite Adam Driver as Kylo.) Ahead of the movie’s debut, Reinhart and Bateman hinted that some shakeups were made in order to bring Hazelwood’s vision to life. “That’s what the script was able to feel like for me — while still keeping the integrity of both characters and doing the book justice,” Reinhart explained at Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest in June 2026. “Obviously, the importance of the book and the source material [is something we thought about].” How Is ‘Love Hypothesis’ Connected to ‘Star Wars’? Surprise Backstory Explained She continued: “We wanted to totally respect that and I think our writer Sarah [Rothschild] absolutely did. The heart of the book is in the film.” Bateman agreed…

Roseanne Barr isn’t mincing words with her TV son Michael Fishman. “Go f–k yourself, you little f–king worm,” Barr said on the podcast “Can’t Be Censored” on Wednesday. “And I’m glad they fired you, because I was the only reason you were ever on that show. They wanted to get rid of you in the reboot, and I made them take you back. F–k you, you little f–king putz.” “But I’m not bitter,” Barr added. Barr was set off when podcast host Travis Dhanraj brought up Fishman’s Aug. 10 comments calling a fan’s critique of her cancellation “ignorant and inaccurate.” Barr’s dismissal from the show before it was renamed “The Conners” came after she tweeted about former President Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, saying, “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.” “The controversy has come up again because he’s saying that he’s, you know, basically pushing back against people that are bringing it up. He said that, you know, good people make mistakes, but what she said essentially … was horrible,” Dhanraj began before Barr cut him off. “He f–king doesn’t even f–king know what I’ve said even though I’ve explained it 10,000 times for nine years…
