The jury has made a decision regarding the murder of Tupac Shakur. Duane "Keffe D" Davis was found guilty after being charged with one count of murder with use of a deadly weapon and with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang in 2023, following the music icon’s tragic death in a 1996 shooting at 25 years old. Shakur was riding with record producer Marion "Suge" Knight in Las Vegas when a car opened fire at a red light. The "Changes" rapper died from four gunshot wounds several days later, while Knight was grazed by a bullet but ultimately survived. (In 2018, he was sentenced to 28 years in prison for unrelated manslaughter charges.) In his 2019 memoir, ‘Compton Street Legend,’ Davis wrote about obtaining a gun with the intent to hunt down Shakur and said he was present in the passenger seat during the shooting, Chief Deputy District Attorney Marc DiGiacomo explained in a 2023 press conference at the time the charges were indicted. Police alleged the book, as well as Davis’ recollections in press interviews, was evidence the 63-year-old was a gang leader who directed the group that carried out the fatal attack, and then incriminated himself publicly over 25 years later.
