Iran has denied Trump’s claim that it will permit “free passage” through the Strait of Hormuz, insisting it will retain control over the waterway even after a peace deal is signed. Iran says it will allow shipping traffic to return to “pre-war” levels. The war, despite failing to topple the regime, would leave Tehran in command of a chokepoint through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply passes. Fars News has also reported that Iran made no commitments concerning its nuclear program during diplomacy.
