Audiences in North America will soon have the chance to fall in love with Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s “The Beloved,” as Kino Lorber has acquired the father-daughter drama out of Cannes. The movie starring Javier Bardem and Victoria Luengo will get an early 2027 theatrical release, the distribution company announced on Monday. The 83rd Venice International Film Festival has added “Naza,” a documentary about Gaza, to the official roster of films in competition. Directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, it is the only doc to compete for the Golden Lion at this year’s fest, which runs Sept. 2-12. The film will make its world premiere on Sept. 10. Abraham and Szor are two of the four directors of “No Other Land,” the documentary about the destruction of a Palestinian community in the West Bank, which won the 2025 Oscar for best documentary. The new film is produced by The Guardian and James Wilson and executive-produced by Jonathan Glazer. Three days later, the 41-year-old former Cambridge professor was found dead at a south London property. Arday’s death transformed an already contentious publishing story into a particularly difficult test for Simon & Schuster: How does a publisher stand behind a recently deceased author while addressing questions about factual claims included in his book? The answer matters beyond one memoir. The controversy has exposed a gap most readers rarely see: Unlike many major magazines, book publishers do not universally subject nonfiction manuscripts to independent, line-by-line fact-checking — even though readers often interpret a major publisher’s imprint as a signal of credibility.
