Glen Hansard, an Oscar-winning musician known for starring in Once died in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash, police confirmed. He was 56. “With broken hearts we announce the passing of Glen Hansard who passed away, in the early hours of this morning, following a road traffic accident in Dublin,” Hansard’s management said in a July 29 statement. “Glen’s family is deeply shocked and heartbroken by this tragic loss and respectfully requests privacy at this extremely difficult time.” Hansard, who starred in the 2007 film alongside Markéta Irglová, won an Oscar for Best Original Song with “Falling Slowly” for the soundtrack in 2008. He later co-wrote the music and lyrics for the hit Broadway musical named after the John Carney movie, which won eight Tony Awards in 2012, including Best Musical.
