Newly released body camera footage shows the moment police in Altoona, Penn., recognized Luigi Mangione as the suspect in the December 2024 killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. In the footage—which was released by the Manhattan D.A.’s office—an officer says, “That’s 100 percent him." Another replies, "I told you, man." The video also shows officers searching Mangione’s backpack at a local McDonald’s restaurant where the confrontation occurred, with authorities finding a magazine for a gun. Mangione is later taken to a police station in the footage. UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot in the back on Dec. 4, 2024, as he headed to an investor conference in Manhattan. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. According to the NBC News, Mangione has pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges in the case. His state trial—which includes a second-degree murder charge—was set to begin in September 2026, but a judge postponed it to give prosecutors time to respond to a double jeopardy motion from his attorneys. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to the state charges and his defense argues the state charges should be dismissed because he pleaded guilty to the federal charges, per NBC News. Full Story:
