Better Call Saul actor Russell Andrews shared that he has been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. During his appearance on CNN’s The Story Is on May 16, the 64-year-old told host Elex Michaelson that he was diagnosed in late fall of last year. Russell, who portrayed Detective Salerno in Better Call Saul, described the experience as “humbling” and unexpectedly comforting, explaining that he’s found support through the ALS network–a community he now considers family. Russell revealed his symptoms first began during the COVID pandemic, when he initially feared he had suffered a stroke. Over time, the symptoms became more severe. He was joined in the interview was his fiancée, actress Erica Tazel, who has stepped into the role of caregiver as Russell continues his journey with the progressive neurodegenerative disease.
