Nearly two years after Artem Chigvintsev was arrested for domestic violence stemming from an incident with Nikki Garcia, he described the entire ordeal as a "bad dream." He was not charged with a crime. Artem told fellow Dancing with the Stars alum Peta Murgatroyd on the April 20 episode of her ‘The Penthouse With Peta’ podcast, "I had to completely switch off me. There was no way of processing everything." However, Artem—who shares son 5-year-old son Matteo with Nikki—noted that his "true answer would be no" if he could have done something differently. "It was inevitable," he shared. "Everything happens for a reason. I feel like for me to end up where I needed to end up, that needed to happen."
