ET looks back at Joanne Carson’s memories of Truman Capote, the season 2 subject of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series, ‘Feud: Capote vs. the Swans.’ The ex-wife of Johnny Carson, played by Molly Ringwald in the FX drama, opened up about the iconic author’s final hours at her Bel-Air home, where she says Capote was still writing in the days leading up to his death on Aug. 25, 1984. In these archival interviews, Joanne made references to Capote’s fallout with his socialite ‘swans’ in the wake of publishing ‘La Côte Basque, 1965,’ an excerpt from his unfinished novel, ‘Answered Prayers.’ In 2006, Joanne organized a charity auction for several of Capote’s personal items, many of them from the heyday of his friendships with Babe Paley, Slim Keith, C.Z. Guest and Lee Radziwill. She took ET on a trip down memory lane, showing off the tuxedo he wore to his famous black and white ball, while reminiscing on her longtime friendship with the ‘In Cold Blood’ author.
