Ronda Rousey is back! After nearly a decade away from the sport, former bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has officially announced her return to MMA. The 39‑year‑old legend confirmed to ESPN on Feb. 17 that she’s stepping back into the cage for an epic showdown against fellow pioneer Gina Carano. Rousey hyped the matchup in a statement saying, “Been waiting so long to announce this: Me and Gina are gonna throw down in the biggest super fight in women’s combat sport history! This is for all MMA fans past, present and future. More to come… much more.” Netflix added fuel to the excitement, posting a clip showing the two icons coming face‑to‑face, giving fans the first taste of what’s to come. Rousey, the UFC’s first‑ever female signee and one of the biggest stars in combat sports history, hasn’t fought since 2016, when she faced Amanda Nunes. She was later inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2018. Carano, another trailblazer in the sport, last competed in 2009, with her only professional loss coming against Cris Cyborg. The Rousey vs. Carano super fight is officially set for May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, streaming live on Netflix.
