Frey, who joined Slate in 2022, takes over immediately from Dan Check, who recently moved to another role at parent company Graham Holdings, Axios first reported Tuesday. A Slate spokesperson confirmed the appointment to TheWrap, saying Frey will retain her editor-in-chief title while taking on overall leadership of the company. Slate also plans to recruit a chief growth officer as Frey looks to attract new audiences and strengthen its relationship with existing readers, the spokesperson added. Graham Holdings disclosed in a July regulatory filing that Slate’s revenue declined during the first half of 2026 and that the publication operated at a loss. The company did not disclose specific financial figures for Slate. The filing also disclosed separation incentive programs involving Slate employees in both the first and second quarters, though it did not specify how many employees participated. “I want to be direct about what’s ahead. Decades after the original film’s release, Dirty Dancing is returning with a highly anticipated sequel. The 1987 classic followed Frances “Baby” Houseman (Jennifer Grey) as she spent the summer with her family at Kellerman’s resort in the Catskills. During her stay, she falls in love with the camp’s dance instructor Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze). Between romance and now-iconic dance routines, the story tackled real-life issues like abortion and classism. Dirty Dancing made over $214 million worldwide following its debut, but a sequel was never confirmed until August 2020. “It’s very early days,” Grey told Woman’s Day at the time. “But I do know that it’s very important to me that certain things are represented, that life is not over and sexuality and pleasure and satisfaction and feeling very alive and excited about what’s coming has got to continue. It cannot be just for the young. It’s about how many times can we recognize that we’ve given up again on ourselves and that there’s more to be excited about, to discover about ourselves, and it’s not over until it’s over.” Jennifer Grey Smoked Weed Before Filming Sex Scene with Patrick Swayze Grey has also addressed concerns about the film moving forward…

Dylan said that one set of relatives discovered gold in the process and moved the rest of the family from North Carolina to California. Both sides of Dylan and Cole’s family were subsequently joined by marriage in the late 1800s. “And then, they diverged, and then they married again [through] my mom and my dad, like, last generation,” he explained. “I…

A substitute teacher in Florida was arrested after he allegedly kicked a student with disabilities and declared they were “square” following the assault. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office announced in a press release that Bryan Schewitz was arrested on Monday, October 19, and was charged with child abuse without great bodily harm following the incident that took place at Matanzas High School on Friday, October 16. Authorities became aware of the incident when the school’s assistant principal told a school resource deputy that Schewitz, 60, was accused of kicking the student, according to a probable cause affidavit viewed by Law & Crime. Investigators spoke to two witnesses, with one person telling officials that Schewitz “forcefully” moved the student into a chair because he was having a “behavioral episode.” Schewitz then allegedly forced the boy’s hands down on a table and said, “The gloves are off.” Teacher Arrested After Dragging Pre-K Student and Shoving Him Into Fence The witness said that Schewitz was often “too rough with kids” and that he was “way too rough with the student” on the day of the incident. She had previously reported Schewitz’s conduct to the assistant principal. Investigators also spoke to a school paraprofessional,…

Warning: This article contains spoilers for “You Can See Everything.” “You Can See Everything” went from being a completely unknown project in early September to one of the cinematic events of the year when it released on Oct. 16. The film, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, is a one-of-a-kind documentary, with Fielder embedding himself in the lives of Elizabeth Holmes and her partner Billy Evans in the days before Holmes goes to prison for defrauding investors with her company Theranos. There’s a lot to chew on in “You Can See Everything,” but the three-hour documentary from A24 will likely leave viewers with more questions than answers. Let’s break a few of them down. 1. Who’s on first? Perhaps the biggest question in “You Can See Everything” is how much control Elizabeth Holmes has over her life and circumstances. As Fielder says at the beginning of the film, there is plenty of evidence that led to Holmes’ incarceration for defrauding investors. However, “You Can See Everything” points to a history of relationships Holmes has had with controlling men. This idea takes up much of the back half of the film’s narrative, as audiences are left to wonder how much…

The trial of a former Massachusetts police officer accused of killing a pregnant 23-year-old woman — and allegedly staging her death as a suicide to cover up years of sexual abuse — is unfolding in federal court. Matthew Farwell, a former Stoughton officer, is accused of killing Sandra Birchmore in February 2021 to prevent her from speaking out about his alleged sexual exploitation, which federal prosecutors say began when she was a minor. Farwell has pleaded not guilty and maintained his innocence, with his defense team arguing that Birchmore died by suicide. Here’s everything to know about the case against Farwell, who faces a mandatory life sentence if convicted. Massachusetts Police Officer Arrested for Alleged Abuse: Case Updates Matthew Farwell’s Alleged Grooming of Sandra Birchmore Sandra Birchmore first crossed paths with Matthew Farwell when she was 12 years old, after joining the Stoughton Police Department’s Explorer’s Program in 2010—an educational law enforcement program for children. Farwell was an instructor for the program at the time, according to prosecutors, who say he used his position to groom and sexually abuse her beginning when she was 15. FBI Special Agent Heidi Kelsch has testified about explicit text messages exchanged between the two,…
Jenna Ortega revealed on Monday’s episode of “Late Night with Seth Meyers” that she is jealous of the person who ended up adopting the three chinchillas she fostered while filming “Wednesday” in Ireland. During her conversation with Meyers, Ortega spoke about her dog, Twigs, who actually goes by a number of different names because “nothing really suits her.” Meyers noted that Ortega adopted the dog from a pet shelter she visited in Ireland while she was working on “Wednesday.” Twigs is not the only animal Ortega welcomed into her home in Ireland, though. The actress also fostered three chinchillas during her “Wednesday” Season 2 stint. However, when Meyers asked if she went back to reconnect with the three chinchillas during the “Wednesday” Season 3 shoot, Ortega said she couldn’t. “Someone adopted them,” she said with a hint of barely concealed bitterness. When Meyers noted she seems “angry” about that update, Ortega relented, “It’s good for them, and it’s not the point of fostering. So if they’re happy…” “You get really jealous!” Ortega added, explaining, “A lot of my friends, they started off fostering their dogs and then, you know, adopted them [because] how can you let go?” The “Wednesday” star…
The creators of the highly anticipated Dirty Dancing sequel are still working out how to honor the late Patrick Swayze — but they know what they won’t be doing. “That’s one of the things that you really have to focus on: how to let people mourn him in a movie,” Nina Jacobson, one of the sequel’s producers, said during a panel at IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking 2026 Summit on Saturday, October 17. Swayze died in September 2009 at age 57 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. “Don’t worry, we won’t be bringing him back with AI,” Jacobson added of the original Dirty Dancing’s leading man. Patrick Swayze’s Widow Lisa Reacts to Reading New ‘Dirty Dancing’ Script Set in the summer of 1963, Dirty Dancing follows 17-year-old Frances “Baby” Houseman (Jennifer Grey), who falls in love with dance instructor Johnny Castle (Swayze) while on vacation with her family at a resort in the Catskill Mountains of New York. The 1987 romantic drama, directed by Emile Ardolino and written by Eleanor Bergstein, became a global phenomenon, grossing $214 million worldwide on a $4.5 million to $6 million production budget. The film also won an Oscar for Best Original Song for “(I’ve Had)…
