Frank G. Mancuso, Sr., the renowned film executive who headed not one but two major Hollywood studios—passed away on Oct. 1 at his home in Los Angeles, from complications of cancer, according to a family spokesperson. He was 93 years old. Mancuso, whose expertise spanned sales, marketing and distribution, served as chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures from 1984 to 1991, during which he oversaw the release of blockbusters “Top Gun,” “Fatal Attraction,” “The Untouchables,” “Coming to America” and “Ghost.” From 1993 to 1999, he headed Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), helping rebuild its film and television operations and acquiring Orion Pictures and PolyGram Filmed Entertainment. Throughout his 45-year career, Mancuso’s affable demeanor earned him the nickname “Gentleman Frank.” He knew the names of colleagues at every level, from the mailroom to the executive floor, and fostered a family-like atmosphere at the studios. “When God created Frank Mancuso Sr., he broke the mold,” said Andy Garcia. “This is not just a saying but the absolute truth. Mr. Mancuso will forever be a beacon of class in our industry, the greatest example of warmth, integrity and generosity. I had the blessing of his friendship, support and guidance. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s production company Artists Equity has established a new division, Artists Equity Independent Pictures, to release new films from emerging filmmakers. Jennifer Westin, SVP, Creative Affairs and Production, will lead day-to-day supervision of the AEIP slate under the guidance of Amy Baer, Artists Equity’s president of film and television. “We owe much of our careers to independent cinema, so we’re keenly aware of its enormous role in discovering and refining talent,” said Affleck and Damon, Artists Equity’s CEO and CCO, respectively. “Artists Equity Independent Pictures is a way for us to empower rising voices with real potential, broaden the type of stories we’re telling, and serve in an audience that continues to express a growing desire for high-quality independent films.” AEIP says it is backed by its own independent film fund and will be based around a “creatively ambitious, fiscally prudent model.” Among the early projects AEIP is developing is “A Woman in the Sun,” the directorial debut of Julia Cox, who wrote the Oscar-nominated “Nyad” and the recent TIFF hit “The Love of Your Life.” Renée Zellweger and Sissy Spacek will star in the film alongside “The Phoenician Scheme” star Mia Threapleton. Glen Powell told Esquire in a new profile published Wednesday that he has no intention of stepping into the ring of political discourse, telling the outlet, “My calling is elsewhere.” “Over time, I realized that politics divide people,” Powell explained. “People trying to prove their point — for me, it’s the worst version of a conversation. I genuinely do not like the discourse. It’s not as healthy as it once was.” “[Engaging in politics] is not presently possible. I applaud people for jumping into those things and fighting for what they believe in,” the actor added. “If I were a political person, I would be talking about it. For me, my calling is elsewhere.” In the profile, Powell noted that his stance aligns with the way he was raised. His parents apparently almost never talked about current events or politics at the dinner table when he was growing up. “Thank God,” he remarked to Esquire. While speaking with the outlet, Powell also touched on the lackluster financial performance of his 2025 blockbuster “The Running Man,” which grossed under $70 million at the worldwide box office on a reported budget of $110 million. The actor partly blamed the film’s poor box…

"Finally ran into @ericf–kingandre," he captioned the Oct. 5 Instagram video of him walking up to Eric, "who had NO MEMORY WHATSOEVER of trashing me to the media after I outshined him on his own show!!" Chet—son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson—continued, "After being sheltered by his security team, he began foaming at the mouth and admitted it was because he had a problem with me ‘mocking Caribbean culture’ when I did my Jamaican accent all those years ago." The "White Boy Summer" rapper—who went viral in 2019 for speaking in a Patois accent while congratulating his dad at the Golden Globes—was not thrilled by Eric’s reasoning. "WHO KNEW that in addition to the brain rot and poop joke humor he is known for, Eric is also such a passionate cultural activist," Chet chided. "Great running into you Eric!!!!"
