Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin is holding off on approving Paramount Skydance’s settlement with 12 state attorneys general to resolve antitrust litigation over the $110 billion Warner Bros. Discovery merger. During a Thursday hearing to address “certain outstanding questions” regarding the proposed settlement, Martinez-Olguin asked the parties to respond to concerns outlined in a letter from Sen. Corey Booker by Monday at noon and to send a written version of the consent decree to her. She also said it would be optional for the parties to respond to amicus briefs from the Block the Merger coalition and The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), which are due by midnight. Under the terms of the settlement, Paramount has agreed to a minimum investment of $300 million per year for five years in U.S. film and TV production, amounting to a total of $1.5 billion. The company will also release at least 30 films per year theatrically in the first two years of the deal and 32 films per year in the three years after that. At least four films per year must be independent films and at least 20% must be blockbusters, although the consent decree defines independent films as movies “based…
Dolly Parton’s sister Freida Parton reacted to rumors of drama in their family after Dolly’s estate—run by manager Danny Nozell—filed a lawsuit and restraining order against their nephew Bryan Seaver. "I’ll say this and this only: there is no feud within our family," Parton wrote in a Sept. 23 Instagram post. "No one among the Parton/Owens family is fighting over Dolly’s estate." She emphasized, "We all love Bryan, just as we all love each other. I love you all!!" The lawsuit, obtained by E! News, accused Seaver—who was previously tapped to announce his aunt’s Aug. 25 death last month on Instagram—of trying to extort money from her estate through an "obscene, deliberate, and escalating campaign of threats" before and after Dolly’s passing. In one instance, according to the court documents, Seaver sent a text message to Nozell six days before the "Jolene" singer’s death, threatening to ruin Dollywood’s relationship with a business partner. Seaver, however, has denied threatening anyone from Dolly’s estate, asserting that his messages were being twisted. If you grew up being fascinated by Court TV, then you’ve probably stumbled upon Law&Crime as its modern equivalent in the digital age — but in fact, Law&Crime actually acquired Court TV earlier this year. As the preeminent source on the internet’s biggest legal cases, Law&Crime saw significant growth during the Lindsay Clancy trial with 256.1 million views across social platforms. Plus, the Court TV app even recorded its highest viewing week ever, while Law&Crime+ subscriptions more than doubled. According to L&C President Rachel Stockman, this record-breaking interest is proof that Americans “want to know what’s happening in our judicial system.” Since the company’s start in 2017 (after launching in 2016 as LawNewz), they have offered high-profile legal analysis across platforms while expanding to documentary programming with networks and services such as Netflix, A+E, Fox Nation and HBO Max. Stockman told Office With a View that offering expertise en masse with trained lawyers and court reporters is as important as ever since “anyone can kind of be a true crime creator nowadays,” though Law&Crime always make sure to still put the victim first. Read TheWrap’s full conversation, slightly edited for brevity and clarity, below: How did you first get started with Law&Crime?I’ve been…
Melissa McCarthy exclusively shared with E! News a rare glimpse into her life at home with her husband of 20 years Ben Falcone. “He’s the best,” McCarthy exclusively told E! News’ Erin Lim Rhodes at Variety’s Power of Women event Sept. 23. “He’s the best human I know.” So, after nearly 30 years together, does the Spy star—mom to daughters Vivian, 19, and Georgette, 16, with Falcone—have any relationship advice? If there is tension before going to bed, McCarthy advises: “Don’t keep hashing it out.” She explained, “If you’re not agreeing, don’t stay up and keep hashing it out when you’re tired. Take a breath. Take a beat. And most likely, when you’re both refreshed, you’ll be like, ‘It wasn’t that big of a deal!’” But arguing before they go to sleep doesn’t seem to be a regular issue for the couple.“We don’t get mad at each other that much,” McCarthy shared. “We talk too much. We get sleepy. Our house is like, we watch Vera and then we go to bed. Try it out, guys. Try it out.” Full Story: https://www.eonline.com/news/1436401/melissa-mccarthy-shares-rare-insight-into-ben-falcone-marriage #enews #melissamcarthy #benfalcone About: The E! A24 and the New York Times are the latest players to emerge that are looking to acquire Letterboxd for over $300 million, according to a report in the New York Times. A rep for A24 declined to comment. “The Company regularly reviews potential investments, and it’s our policy not to comment on speculation about potential acquisitions or divestitures,” Katie Hill, NYT SVP, Global Head of Communications and External Affairs, told The Wrap in a statement. Others that have participated in the early talks include Sony, Netflix and Paramount, private equity firms RedBird and TPG and Reddit co-creator and Seven Seven Six founder and general partner Alexis Ohanian, according to Puck. Letterboxd is majority-owned by the Canadian holding company Tiny, which took a 60% stake in 2023 in a deal valued at $50 million to $60 million. Meanwhile, Letterboxd co-founders Matthew Buchanan and Karl von Randow own the remaining 40% of the company. As of May, the platform had more than 29 million members globally. The latest meetings come after Semafor reported in April that Tiny spoke with both Versant and the Ankler about their interest in potentially buying the platform, thought it couldn’t agree on sales terms with the latter.…
Mekki Leeper will make the jump from actor to star, EP, writer and showrunner with his new comedy, “New Money” at Prime Video. Leeper (“Jury Duty,” “St. Denis Medical”) will star in the half-hour comedy he created and wrote, while he shares showrunning responsibilities with Joe Mande (“Hacks,” “The Running Point”), who also serves as an executive producer. “New Money” is described as an ensemble workplace comedy set in the fast-paced and morally dubious world of private equity, following a trustfund-baby-turned-(self-proclaimed)-mogul and his staff of misguided wannabes at New Money Worldwide, Southern California’s least successful venture capital firm, per the official logline. “Delusions of grandeur and complete incompetence will not stop our nepo-baby hero and his team of dedicated misfits, from failing upwards as they recklessly invest money in a desperate attempt to make exponentially more money,” the logline reads. “Mekki Leeper is a rare talent and a sharp comedic voice who brings an original perspective to everything he does,” Amazon MGM Studios head of global TV Peter Friedlander said in a statement. “Paired with the incredible creative pedigree of Joe Mande, ‘New Money’ is the kind of smart, irreverent comedy that audiences love. We can’t wait for Prime Video customers around…

“And then I cast Tom Cruise and everything went insane.” That’s how Neil Jordan describes “Interview With the Vampire,” his decadent 1994 horror epic based on the 1976 novel by Anne Rice, which is now available as a deluxe 4K Blu-ray festooned with delicious new special features and a handful of previously unseen deleted scenes. (And just in time for Halloween!) But Jordan’s version of events isn’t exactly true. At the time, Jordan was coming off the phenomenal global success of “The Crying Game,” which won him the Best Original Screenplay Oscar and made more than $70 million internationally on a budget of £2 million. (It was also, back before the instant echo-chamber of the internet, a provocative, word-of-mouth sensation that sparked countless conversations.) The studios wanted to work with Jordan, recognizing both the artistic and commercial possibilities of such an endeavor. “People were sending me things,” Jordan said in his typically self-deprecating, extremely Irish way. It was during this period of people sending him things that David Geffen, the controversial record executive and film producer, brought up “Interview With the Vampire.” Jordan said that he’d “heard about the legend of it;” how difficult the book had been to adapt…
