A woman in West Virginia was arrested after she allegedly left her elderly husband with dementia on a toilet for 19 hours and ignored his pleas for help. Margaret Louise Rog has been charged with abuse of an incapacitated adult with a substantial risk of death. Grab your band tee and get ready to rock because the band that brought some of the 2000s’ most defining pop-rock anthems is back — but their return almost didn’t happen. More than two decades after hits like “Swing, Swing” and “Dirty Little Secret” helped make The All-American Rejects one of the era’s biggest bands, founding members Tyson Ritter and Nick Wheeler exclusively spoke to Us about their latest chapter and why there was a time they thought the band might “Move Along” for good. “I don’t think we ever had the conversation, but I think we alluded to it on multiple occasions,” Wheeler, 44, told Us. “We were all coming to terms with that … coming to terms with the fact that the timing just might never be right. But then it was.” Tyson Ritter, Chris Gaylor, Mike Kennerty and Nick Wheeler of The All-American Rejects. Phillip Faraone/Getty Images After spending their early years almost entirely consumed by the band, Wheeler said stepping away gave him, Ritter, Chris Gaylor and Mike Kennerty time to grow on their own — and figure out who they were outside of the group. “We had to step a bit, and I think that’s…

Dolly Parton posthumously accepted the Americana Music Honors & Awards Lifetime Achievement Award via video message recorded just three weeks before her death. Looking glamorous and upbeat, despite her private battle with cancer, Parton concluded her heartfelt message by telling fans, ‘And just know that I will always love you.’ Parton’s Lifetime Achievement Award was announced earlier this month, though the honor had clearly been in the works for some time. The existence of her acceptance speech came as a surprise to the audience, as did a tribute performance by Brandi Carlile, who sang one of Parton’s signature songs, ‘Coat of Many Colors.’ Dolly is also expected to appear in another pre-recorded video message on Sept. 19 for the ACM Honors, where she will posthumously accept the prestigious Poets Award. ABC filed an opposition to the Federal Communications Commission’s motion to dismiss the First Amendment lawsuit against them Thursday, calling the commission’s early license renewal a “broadcaster death penalty.” The FCC asked a federal judge to dismiss ABC’s First Amendment lawsuit challenging the agency’s early review of licenses for eight Disney-owned television stations Sept. 4. “Those public statements underscore that the purpose of the Commission’s call for early license renewal is not to investigate discrimination; it is to license viewpoints,” the filing stated in response to the motion to dismiss. The network said that the FCC’s motions “improperly conflate the nature of Plaintiffs’ retaliation claims,” while ABC and its affiliates suffer. This opposition comes on the Sept. 17 reply deadline, which is part of the briefing schedule laid out by the judge last month, ahead of a hearing ordered for the week of Oct. 5, according to the network. ABC also claimed that the FCC’s “plain purpose” of initiating the early license renewal process was to have leverage over them “by hanging the threat of the broadcaster death penalty of license non-renewal or revocation over Plaintiffs’ every editorial decision.” “Although the Chairman is free to express publicly that he dislikes…
The FCC has approved an investment in the Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger by a group of foreign investors, including three Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds. Per a declaratory ruling on Thursday, the agency granted the David Ellison-led media giant’s request for foreign investors to indirectly hold a stake in excess of 25% in the aggregate, more than 5% each in the equity of Paramount through non-voting Class B shares and advance approval to hold up to 20% each of the indirect equity in Paramount in the future. The FCC also found that it is “in the public interest to permit up to 100% indirect foreign equity interest of Paramount, in the aggregate.” Foreign investors will own 49.5% of the non-voting equity in Paramount, with 38.5% of that total controlled by three Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund will hold an equity stake of 15.1%, the United Arab Emirates’ L’imad Holding Company will hold a stake of 12.8% and the Qatar Investment Authority will hold a stake of 10.6%, per the ruling. Other foreign equity owners include “passive limited partner investors” in funds managed by RedBird Capital Partners, which account for 5.8%, and foreign-based entities that have…
