Eighteen months ago, Guy Shimoni said, no one wanted to hear about microdramas. Now, the founder and CEO of Shortical says Hollywood is knocking on his door. The founder said the once-taboo format is drawing interest from traditional entertainment players who see the revenues coming in. At TheGrill 2026, Shimoni joined Mansa co-founders David Oyelowo and Nate Parker and aTwist CEO Jana Winograde to discuss how the microdrama boom is opening new avenues for talent, experimentation and investment as Hollywood’s traditional pipelines contract. Oyelowo and Parker co-founded their streaming platform Mansa to platform Black creative voices. Within the last year, that expansion has included an increased investment into vertical storytelling. The multi-hyphenates came from the traditional entertainment ecosystem — Oyelowo known for starring in films like “Selma” and “Queen of Katwe,” Parker for directing and starring in “The Birth of a Nation” — but realized they could do more for marginalized voices in the lower-budget space. “It was about embracing a process that we had been forced into just by being filmmakers of color,” Parker, co-founder and CEO of Mansa, said onstage at the DGA Theater. “Not everyone can make a film for $5 million, $10 million, $20 million, so…

After 28 years, authorities arrested a man in the cold case murder of a 20-year-old woman whose body was found near her car along a Georgia highway. On September 14, 1998, Christy Dawn Myers left her Coffee County home, where she lived with her husband and their young daughter in Broxton, to visit a local store, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Several witnesses told investigators they had spoken with Myers at the store, the agency has said. After she left the business, Myers was found dead after midnight on September 15, 1998. Myers’s body was located outside of her car on the side of the Broxton Fitzgerald Highway in Coffee County, the GBI said in a Friday, October 2, news release. She had been stabbed several times. Man Arrested Years After He Allegedly Stabbed Mom to Death at Georgia Store The case remained cold for nearly three decades, until testing of forensic evidence identified a suspect, James Lawrence III, of Irwin County, according to the GBI. Lawrence, 47, was arrested on Thursday, October 1, on charges of felony murder, malice murder and aggravated assault in relation to Myers’ death. The GBI didn’t specify a potential motive for the…
Christa Pike came within an hour of becoming the first woman executed in Tennessee in 200 years before a federal appeals court halted her lethal injection on the morning of September 30, 2026. Her then-boyfriend and accomplice, Tadaryl Shipp, has never faced the same fate — and the reason comes down to a single factor: his age at the time of the murder. Pike, now the only woman on Tennessee’s death row, was convicted of the 1995 killing of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, a fellow student at the Job Corps Center in Knoxville. Shipp, who was dating Pike and helped lure Slemmer into the woods on the night she was killed, was 17 at the time of the crime. That made him a minor under the law — and ineligible for the death penalty. Here’s a breakdown of what happened to Shipp, how his sentence has held up over the decades and where his case stands now. What Crime Did Christa Pike and Tadaryl Shipp Commit? On January 12, 1995, Pike, Shipp and their friend Shadolla Peterson led Slemmer to a remote area of the University of Tennessee’s agricultural campus. According to court records, Pike slashed Slemmer’s throat, beat her and…
The ceremony leaves its longtime home for the first time as a new broadcast partner has yet to be announced The Kennedy Center Honors will move to Washington, D.C.’s Capital One Arena this year, marking the first time the annual ceremony will be held outside the Kennedy Center since its launch nearly five decades ago. The move comes as another longtime Honors tradition is also up in the air. CBS broadcast the ceremony every year from its debut in 1978 through 2025, but its contract with the Kennedy Center expired following last year’s telecast. A Kennedy Center spokesperson said a broadcast partner for the 2026 ceremony will be announced at a later date. The 49th annual Kennedy Center Honors will take place Dec. 7 at Capital One Arena. This year’s honorees have not yet been announced. Last year’s ceremony, hosted by President Donald Trump, drew 3.01 million viewers on CBS, the smallest audience in the Honors’ history. The telecast was also streamed on Paramount+. Honorees included Sylvester Stallone, George Strait, Gloria Gaynor, Michael Crawford and the rock band Kiss. The venue change comes as the Kennedy Center’s main building remains closed while officials assess safety risks stemming from structural deterioration.…
Big Brother runner-up Taylor Brown picked up a vibe from some jury members while she was pleading her case to win the game. “I don’t know if you guys know — I’m very big on body language and just reading the room as to what was going on,” Taylor, 28, exclusively told Us following the season 28 finale on Thursday, October 1. “Between Angela [Murray], Dee [Valladares] and Melody [Morris] alone, I knew that their body language was [off].” Taylor was referring to the moment when she responded to multiple questions from members of the jury which consisted of Angela, Dee, Melody, LaTrice “Lala” Verrett, Barrett Pfeiffer, Yash Patel and Drew Campbell. While Taylor was speaking, she noticed there was a difference in Angela’s facial reactions when she spoke compared to Rick Devens. One moment fans noticed instantly online was when Angela, 52, shook her head at Melody, 24, after Taylor tried to take credit for Lyric Medeiros’ eviction (Devens, 42, later clarified that his alliance orchestrated the blindside.) Rick Devens Details How Losing ‘Survivor’ Helped Him Win ‘Big Brother’ “Every time I would speak, her face would frown up,” she said. “Maybe I’m over reading [or] wrong, or whatever…

Tony Romo is beginning a new chapter. Two months after the NFL game analyst was arrested in Wisconsin for operating a vehicle while impaired (an OWI), CBS Sports confirmed he would no longer be working with the network. "CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways," CBS Sports said in an Oct. 2 statement to E! News. "We thank Tony for his contributions over the past nine years and wish him the best moving forward." The sports network noted that J.J. Watt will remain the lead analyst—a role he took over after Romo was placed on an indefinite leave following his July arrest—and will continue to partner with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson for the rest of the season. The message also clarified that "all other teams remain the same." The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback confirmed in a Sept. 1 statement that he had pleaded no contest to the charges. #enews #tonyromo #cbssports About: The E! Don’t call it a comeback, but bleached eyebrows have been making a major return among a new generation of It girls. After stars including Kim Kardashian, Lizzo, Julia Fox and more experimented with peroxide-blonde brows 2022 — only to return to their natural color shortly thereafter — more celebs have revived the less-is-more look as of late. Take Joey King, for example, who switched up her signature brown arches for nearly invisible blonde strands in January 2025. She debuted the futuristic look via Instagram, where BFFs including Sabrina Carpenter and Noah Cyrus (who also sports bleached brows) praised her new beauty move. “Rude to look this good without eyebrows,” Carpenter wrote, as Cyrus added, “THIS IS YOUR LOOK.” Besides King, Alix Earle briefly rocked bleached brows in May 2024 for an 11-hour photoshoot for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit digital issue. She teased the look via TikTok before revealing she would star as the first-ever digital cover model for SI Swimsuit.
