Glen Powell may have a love for his “Chad Powers” character, but he is definitely going to judge you if Chad is your time. According to the actor, he actually was hit on by a woman while he was Chad, and it made him think about “how she was raised.” Powell appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Monday night, ahead of the season 2 premiere of “Chad Powers” on Hulu on September 3. While there, he reflected on filming season 2, and noted that he’s asked all the time if he ever takes advantage of the Chad Powers disguise and goes out in public with it. Apparently it’s not often, but he definitely did when he needed coffee from a nearby shop during filming. “I was waiting for my coffee, and this girl was next to me waiting for her coffee. And she kind of looked at me, she’s like, ‘Oh, hey, what’s your name?’ And I kind of paused and I was like, ‘I’m Chad,’” Powell recalled, putting on his Chad voice. According to the actor, the conversation kept going, and the woman offered to show him around Atlanta, since he mentioned he was there for work. It was…

The $6 million “gift” that cost former Forbes editor Randall Lane his job was apparently payment for helping a business partner sell his company, according to the man who made it. RJ Shook said Monday that Lane assisted with his efforts to sell Shook Research, which produces Forbes’ rankings of financial professionals, to private-equity firm PPC Enterprises. Shook and his wife sold a controlling stake in the company in July 2025. After the deal closed, Shook paid Lane approximately $6 million in recognition of the editor’s “services and guidance” and the success Shook achieved as a result, he said. However, neither man disclosed the payment to Forbes or PPC. Lane was then fired in July after Forbes discovered the money. He previously characterized it as a gift and acknowledged that failing to disclose it was a “serious error in judgment.” Shook Research has worked with Forbes since 2016 to produce rankings, such as lists of top wealth advisers. The companies also collaborate on events and share revenue from plaques and reprints sold to professionals who appear on the lists. Lane discussed that partnership during PPC’s due-diligence process, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing people familiar with the matter. Forbes…

Somehow, Ali G returned. Sacha Baron Cohen reprises one of his most formative — and beloved — characters for a new movie hitting theaters in October. That’s right, Ali G is in the building. Again. “Ali G: Who Iz I?” sees the provocative, incredibly dumb character making his return in documentary format, with Cohen employing the technique he used to comedic effect on “Borat” and “Bruno” to pit the character against real-life non-actors who think they’re in a real documentary. Cohen is marking his feature film directorial debut on the project after directing an episode of his HBO docuseries “Who Is America?” Ali G was, of course, one of the first characters that put Cohen on the map in the early 2000s. A poser putting on a street-smart, “rude boy” attitude but who was, in fact, an idiot, he led “Da Ali G Show” on Channel 4, which later aired in the U.S. on HBO. Cohen did make an Ali G movie in 2002 called “Ali G Indahouse,” but it was an entirely fictional film and didn’t use the mockumentary format that Cohen would later fully embrace. That movie also had a very limited release in the States. After Ali…

It may not feel like it outside, but summer is indeed winding down. This week I wanted to highlight a few movie narratives that flew under the radar over the last few months. Surprising success stories, flops and something in between. Without further ado, here are five summer box office stories you may have missed: “Obsession” did even better than you think: Curry Barker’s indie horror smash, made for under $1 million, has now grossed over $500 million worldwide. It’s the highest-grossing original film of the 2020s, and is a bona fide profit machine for Focus Features. “Backrooms” ended its theatrical run with $397 million worldwide — which is still mighty impressive — but the “Obsession” total is just nuts. Another Guy Ritchie flop: Guy Ritchie may want to stick to streaming movies. Despite pairing Jake Gyllenhaal with Henry Cavill, the breezy Black Bear thriller “In the Grey” grossed just $24 million worldwide against a $70 million budget, and that’s after 2024’s “Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” grossed just $30 million in 2024. The filmmaker hasn’t had a theatrical hit since 2021’s Jason Statham thriller “Wrath of Man,” but he sure keeps pumping them out. He’s having better luck on TV with “The…

Kim Kardashian showed off her youngest son Psalm West’s newest superhero obsession in a sweet social media clip. In a series of videos shared to her Aug, 24 Instagram Story, Kim showed Psalm chowing down at the dinner table while dressed like Spider-Man, as well as a clip of the 7-year-old lounging around the house in the suit. She captioned the latter, “Savoring every moment with my little spideyPsalm.” And indeed, making the most of downtime with her children—Kim is also mom to North West, 13, Saint West, 10, and Chicago West, 8, with ex-husband Kanye “Ye” West—and other family members has seemingly been the business mogul’s M.O. this summer. After all, her social feeds over the last few months have shown off her lake and beachside vacations with her family and boyfriend Lewis Hamilton. The landmark sitcom premiered 75 years ago and won four Emmys during its original run.
As if there was any doubt, “I Love Lucy” has been even further cemented in the TV hall of fame. The Television Academy announced Tuesday that the iconic 1950s comedy series would receive the organization’s inaugural Legacy Award. This award, which annually recognizes a series that made a “profound and generational impact on audiences and remains relevant to society, culture and the industry today,” will be given out on the second night of the 78th Emmy Awards on Sept. 6. “‘I Love Lucy’ truly helped define what television could be,” Cris Abrego, chair of the TV Academy, said in a statement. “Beyond its place in television and cultural history as one of the medium’s most beloved shows, its creative ambition, technical innovation and groundbreaking approach to the business of television established a blueprint that continues to influence our industry 75 years later. We are proud to celebrate a series whose impact is so enduring as the first recipient of the Television Academy’s Legacy Award.” “I Love Lucy,” which released 180 episodes across six seasons from 1951 to 1957, already has a few Emmys under its belt. Lucille Ball won two awards for her comic acting in 1953 and 1956, while…
“I appreciate the pushback.” With those four seemingly innocuous words, Hank Green — one of the most beloved and respected education creators around — set off a bomb within the creator community about when AI should be used and how it should be disclosed. During an episode of Green’s “Ask Hank Anything” earlier this month, the science and education creator used that four-word phrase, which commonly appears in AI responses, in a video discussing human language. That was enough for Green’s fans to suspect that he was reading from an AI-generated script. Green denied that he was reading from a script but admitted to using AI in his research. That’s when things got ugly. The backlash against his AI usage was so swift and strong that within days of the snafu, Green posted a long Reddit post about his use of the tech and announced he was slowing down production of his YouTube channels “Hank’s Channel,” “SMUSH” and “4×3” as he grapples with next steps. Green then announced his new rules for how he will be using AI in his work, assuring fans that no portion of any script will ever be written, edited or outlined by a large language…
