Simon & Schuster will move forward with the U.K. publication of Jason Arday’s memoir despite lingering questions about elements of the late Cambridge professor’s personal story and the publisher’s review of the book. “Great and Unfortunate Things” will be released Thursday as scheduled “in accordance with his family’s wishes,” Simon & Schuster UK told The Bookseller on Monday. The decision provides the first definitive answer from the publisher about whether the memoir’s release would proceed following Arday’s death. Police said his death was unexpected, but was not being treated as suspicious. He was 41. Simon & Schuster released the memoir in the United States on Aug. 11, three days before Arday’s death. The publisher did not respond to repeated questions from TheWrap last week about whether it was reassessing the book, considering corrections or asking retailers to pause additional orders. TheWrap reported Aug. 18 that the memoir remained available through distributor Ingram Content Group and could still be ordered by independent bookstores. Questions about aspects of Arday’s academic and personal history intensified ahead of the book’s release. He resigned from Cambridge on Aug. 5 amid scrutiny that included allegations that portions of his doctoral thesis had been plagiarized. Arday denied…

Mariska Hargitay—who has portrayed Olivia Benson on ‘Law & Order: SVU’ since 1999—revealed she once considered walking away from the hit show. “The comedy thing was painful to me,” she told Variety in an Aug. 19 interview, “because I felt like I was only exercising one part of myself. People would say, ‘You need to get off that show and do comedy. You need to get off that show and have a talk show.’” But even when she told her pal Julianna Margulies that she was considering moving on from the series, which first premiered in 1999, she knew in her heart of hearts she “wasn’t ready to leave.” She explained, “Because I loved it. And then I got to do all this other stuff, and that’s why I don’t think about leaving right now.” As the 62-year-old learned with time, sticking with the NBC show—which also stars Christopher Meloni, Dann Florek, Richard Belzer and Ice-T—doesn’t mean she has to sacrifice other creative ventures. “Do I want to quit now? No,” she said. “Why? I made a movie while shooting; I did a play for six weeks on hiatus. I’m hosting the Emmys.” Full Story: https://www.eonline.com/news/1435358/mariska-hargitay-reveals-reason-she-almost-left-law-order-svu #enews #emmys #mariskahargitay About:…
