Dolly Parton started out as an aspiring singer from East Tennessee, and after decades of hard work, she became a beloved country icon. During her nearly six-decade career, Parton put a smile on her fans’ faces and was regarded as one of the best in the country music business. She wowed with hits like “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You” while giving back to the communities that raised her through various charities. Parton also made a splash on the big screen, with 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias among her most memorable movies. One year after the death of her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, in March 2025, Parton’s rep confirmed in August 2026 that the musician had died at the age of 80. Her legacy, however, will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Scroll down to relive Parton’s greatest moments throughout her career:
Sometimes the secret to a happy marriage is a sleep divorce — just ask these celebrity couples. Carson Daly confessed that he and wife Siri Pinter had been sleeping separately since 2019 when she was pregnant with their fourth child. (Daly and Pinter welcomed Jackson, Etta, London and Goldie in 2009, 2012, 2014 and 2020, respectively.) He noted that his sleep-apnea factored into the equation when it came to their sleeping arrangements. Daly joked to People in 2020, “We just shook hands like, ‘I love you, but it’s time to sleep divorce. It’ll be the best thing for all of us.’” Daly, who married Pinter in 2015, added that the pair’s separate set-up has “been good” for them. “We don’t do it all the time, but a couple of days during the week — especially if I want to watch an Islanders hockey game kind of later at night — I go into the guest room, she retires upstairs to read her book or watch a show,” he told People in April 2024. Parton had admitted she was “going through some hard times” with her health in an interview with People published that same day, but was optimistic about her recovery. “I think because we live in a 24/7 world with social media, everything gets magnified in ways it wasn’t years ago,” she posited. “I used to joke that I was the Queen of the Tabloids, but now I guess I can say I’m the Queen of Social Media AI! While Lindsay Clancy has never denied killing her three kids, her defense has argued she shouldn’t be held criminally responsible due to her mental health struggles. A pivotal moment in the case took place on Tuesday, August 25, when forensic psychologist Dr. Kirk Heilbrun insisted that he believed she was “criminally responsible” for the killings despite suffering from bipolar disorder, postpartum psychosis and depression. He noted that Clancy’s conditions were made worse by her insomnia and her adverse reaction to medications she was prescribed. “She retained an awareness of the illegality of killing others, including her children,” Heilbrun said. “Her moral awareness of this killing was influenced by her strong desire to die and, if she was dead, not to leave her children behind.” Heilbrun also said he didn’t believe Clancy’s claim that she hallucinated a male’s voice who told her to kill Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, in January 2023. Instead, he said he believes she killed them so they wouldn’t “suffer” after she died by suicide. Dolly Parton and Carl Dean were open about their decision not to have children together. “My husband and I, when we first got married, we thought about if we had kids, what would they look like?” Parton told The Guardian in December 2014. “Would they be tall — because he’s tall? Or would they be little squats like me? If we’d had a girl, she was gonna be called Carla. We talked about it, and we dreamed it, but it wasn’t meant to be. Now that we’re older? We’re glad.” Dean died in March 2025 at age 82 following a prolonged illness.
