Margot Robbie is breaking her silence on all the discourse surrounding “Barbie’s” Oscar nominations. The actress and producer took part in a special screening of the movie this week and during a panel discussion with her co-stars, the moderator asked for her reaction to the film’s Academy Award nods. “Barbie” scored eight nominations total, but Margot did not receive a nod for Best Actress, nor did Greta Gerwig for Best Director, which many saw as snubs, sparking disappointment with fans and stars of the film. In her response, which was captured on video, Margot emphasized that she was “beyond ecstatic” for the recognition the film did get from the Academy and suggested that it was the movie’s impact with audiences that mattered most. She said in part, “We set out to do something that would shift culture, affect culture, or just make some sort of impact, and it’s already done that and some.” Margot went on to celebrate Greta’s achievement as director, saying, “Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated as a director, because what she did is a once in a career, once in a lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it really is. But it’s been an incredible year for all the films, and there’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed.”
