Lexi Jones, the daughter of David Bowie and Iman, detailed her experience in a wilderness therapy program during her teenage years while her late dad battled cancer. “It was my first year of high school, and everyone around me was experimenting, but for me, it wasn’t about fun,” she said in a Feb. 18 Instagram post. “I wasn’t experimenting. I was escaping—escaping from my complicated mind, my complicated family, my complicated school. When the party ended for everybody else, I kept going and I drank and got high alone.” As the 25-year-old’s substance use increased, her mental health began to decline, turning her into “someone who lashed out.” She alleged that she was eventually taken from her family’s home and sent to a wilderness therapy program, where she lived outdoors and learned a range of survival skills. After completing a 91-day stay, Jones said she then spent 13 months at a residential treatment center in Utah, where she continued to undergo therapy while also learning about art. In fact, the musician said the boarding school is where she learned of her father’s death in January 2016, noting she had been in contact with him prior to his passing.
