Hayden Panettiere’s mom is insisting she has nothing but love for her late daughter. Days after the Heroes star died in South Carolina on Aug. 16 at the age of 36, her mother Lesley Vogel addressed their estrangement. "Although my daughter and I were estranged, it was not for lack of care or love," Vogel said in an Aug. 20 statement to Entertainment Tonight. "It was due to the involvement of a toxic individual." Although the mother of the Ice Princess actress did not identify the individual by name, Vogel had previously told NBC News that Panettiere’s family was “trying to get rid of” her boyfriend Brian Hickerson “for quite some time.” The Scream franchise alum had previously spoken out about her fraught relationship with her mother in her memoir This is Me: A Reckoning. In the wake of Panettiere’s death, Vogel has faced criticism from public figures such as Ruby Rose and CBS Mornings host Gayle King for the estrangement.
