Listener email: Hey Ben! I was listening to you and Ryan on the podcast talking about disc media rot and just wanted to share with the class that there is a good computer program for taking a DVD or Blu-Ray and creating a copy of the contents on your computer. You can transfer all the properties of the movie, including subtitles, etc. The application is called HandBrake. Computer files are infinitely duplicatable, so you could put as many copies of the same movie on as many hard drives as your heart desires.
Obviously, this program could be abused and used for pirating movies (don’t use it for that!), but as long as you are only creating digital copies of movies that you bought and paid for and only for personal use, everything is kosher. Thanks! – Alec
