Patrick Dempsey opened up about his surprise return to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ during an appearance on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ on Wednesday. The 54-year-old actor revealed that the idea was born after a chat over the summer with his former co-star, Ellen Pompeo. Dempsey also revealed that they managed to keep his return a secret by only telling a few select people, including Kevin McKidd, who both stars in the medical drama and directed the episode featuring Derek Shepherd’s beach scene. ET recently caught up with Kevin and he dished on what it was like having Dempsey back.
